From Cows to Clinical Care, Kathleen Is a Copywriter Extraordinaire

“One must still have chaos in oneself to give birth to a dancing star.” (Nietzsche)

Kathleen joined OBI Creative as our senior copywriter extraordinaire in June and we couldn’t be happier. Kathleen has more than 30 years of agency experience, an amazing portfolio and expertise in the agriculture, construction and healthcare fields.

Her knowledge of agriculture might have something to do with the fact that her family runs a cow-calf operation in South Dakota and has done so for three generations. Or maybe it is because she majored in rural sociology and English at South Dakota State.

But she can write about much more than cows and clinical care. Trust us.

“My greatest joy is writing copy that rings true, that strikes a chord with the viewer or reader in an interesting and compelling way. I have a profound respect for the written word and the power it wields.”

Kathleen spent much of her early career driving back and forth on I-80 between Omaha and Lincoln after working on her master’s degree at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. She was working for the same agency – just in different cities. For two years, her nav system put her on I-35 and she moved to the Twin Cities to work for Colle+McVoy, only to return to Omaha.

Perhaps it was Lulu’s idea to come home — Kathleen’s nine-year old Pomeranian who pretty much has the run of the house. Or it might have been our plethora of good Mexican restaurants that Kathleen loves so much.

When Kathleen isn’t eating out she’s in her own kitchen — she loves to cook and even better, she loves to bake…PIES.

If you’re wondering what this writer reads — currently Dalva by Jim Harrison. But she admits there is nothing better than the Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Film Noir is also one of her guilty pleasures. We’re told she has quite the collection of Film Noir movies from the 1940s.
